ALLERGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS

Allergic conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the eye: conjunctiva and eyelids.

In the case of pollen allergy, it’s also known as seasonal conjunctivitis or spring conjunctivitis.

If rhinitis is also present, it’s called allergic rhino-conjunctivitis, seasonal rhino-conjunctivitis or spring rhino-conjunctivitis,

This is also known as pollinosis.

Causes of allergic conjunctivitis

  • pollens from trees, grasses, cereals and herbaceous plants
  • animal hair: cat, dog

Symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis

  • eye redness
  • itching
  • watery eyes
  • secretions

Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis

  • if possible, avoid allergens
  • local treatment
  • desensitization to cure conjunctivitis and prevent aggravations
